Projects

Michael’s Books
If you’ve ever visited Michael’s (and if you haven’t, you should!) you know that owner Michael Elmer is Mr. Books, a personal brand writ larger than anything I could come up with. Nonetheless, I have contributed in my own way. Aside from catalog copy, I wrote brochure copy and a press release about our online book sales that netted two articles in the Bellingham Herald. I’m at the store Monday, Tuesday, Friday, and Saturday — come in and say hi!

American Museum of Radio and Electricity
I put on two rock’n'roll benefit shows in the fall of 2011 to raise money for KMRE, the museum’s radio station. Booked bands, arranged for donated sound gear and mixing, did publicity, and staffed the events with volunteers.

Grand Avenue Ale House
This website for the Grand Avenue Ale House utilizes “Pootie Green,” a lime hue that owner Pootie Powell would paint the world with if she could. I built the site with WordPress so it can easily be updated and expanded. I added the site link to the Grand’s Yelp, Yahoo, Google Places and Urban Spoon listings, and also put the repeating food and drink specials on the Bellingham Herald calendar.

Pickford Film Center
I’ve worked on publicity, sponsorships, and event planning for several Pickford film festivals, including NWProjections, Guerilla Film Project, Doctober, and the Bellingham Children’s Film Festival.

Whatcom Natural Health
This online directory lets people write reviews for acupuncturists, yoga practitioners, health food stores and all sorts of other natural health businesses. I used WordPress with the Atahualpa theme, custom graphics, and the GD Star Rating plugin.

Bellingham Herald
I did quite a bit of freelancing for the Herald around 2005-2007. I was a regular theater reviewer — I even had one of those extreme close-up headshots. I also wrote articles for Whatcom Weddings, the Northwest Washington Fair Guide, and the Holiday Gift Guide.

Booklist Magazine
Booklist is a book review journal published by the American Library Association. I worked there for two years laying out magazine sections with the dear departed FrameMaker dtp program. I also contributed about half a dozen book reviews each month.
